Jose “Baby” Puey Jr., former Negros del Norte governor and Sagay mayor, will be buried at his family’s private cemetery in Sitio Pandanan, Barangay Himogaan Baybay, Sagay City, tomorrow.
He will be laid to rest after an 8 a.m. mass at the Pandanan Catholic Church, his brother former Negros Occidental Board Member Victor Puey said yesterday.
The former governor, 87, had acquired pneumonia and succumbed to heart failure at the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City Sunday morning, his brother said.
His remains that had been lying in state at the Acropolis Gardens in Bacolod City will be transferred to the Pandanan Catholic Church today.
Jose Puey Jr. was mayor of Sagay City from 1963 to 1971, and after the People Power Revolution in 1986, President Corazon Aquino appointed him OIC governor of the short-lived Negros del Norte, his brother said.
The board member said his brother was the lone mayor in Negros Occidental who fought the Ferdinand Marcos-Armin Gustilo regime during the martial law years.
Jose Puey is survived by his wife, Gilda, and their children Natalie, Charrie, Pepito, Dina and Marvi, the former board member said.*
