The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod unanimously approved yesterday the amount of P4.5 million as financial assistance Bacolod City is extending to the two cities and five towns in Mindanao that were hit by a 6.5 earthquake on November 3.
Executive Assistant Jose Maria Vargas, cluster head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, yesterday said the city will extend P1 million each to the cities of Kidapawan, Cotabato and Digos in Davao del Sur.
Vargas said the city will extend P500,000 each to the towns of Makilala, Tulunan, and Magpet in the Province of Cotabato, and the towns of Magsaysay and Bansalan in the Province of Davao del Sur.
He said the city can only extend financial assistance to areas that have been declared "under a state of calamity," as provided under R.A. 10121 or the Disaster Management Act of 2019.
Vargas also said the funds will be sent through bank-to-bank transactions. It will be taken from the CDRRMO fund and may be released next week after it has been approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod.*
