MPBL officials, players
face game-fixing charges

Boxing icon and Philippine Senator Manny Pacquiao yesterday released the names of 21 personnel and players of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League who are allegedly involved in game fixing.

In a press conference held in Manila, Pacquiao said those in the list will face charges before the Department of Justice for violation of Presidential Decree 483 that penalizes betting, game-fixing or point shaving and machinations in sports contests.

Pacquiao named a certain “Mr. Sung” as the mastermind of the game-fixing anomaly. He is facing 17 counts of betting, 17 counts of point shaving, and 2 counts of game-fixing.

Also in the list are Soccsksargen Marlins team manager Kevin Espinosa, an alias @Kein and @Emma, all facing 17 counts of point shaving and 2 counts of game-fixing.

Marlins players Jake Diwa, Exequiel Biteng, Jerome Juanico, Matthew Bernabe, Julio Magbanua, Jr., Abraham Santos, John Patrick Rabe, Ryan Regalado, and Ricky Morillo were also included in the list.

Other respondents in the case filed by the MPBL are Sonny Uy, Serafin Matias, EJ Avila, Niño Dionisio, Ferdinand Melocoton, Nice Ilagan, Janus Lozada, and Joshua Alcober.

Pacquiao said he wants those who are involved in game-fixing to go to jail, stressing that he hates cheats.*
