SP to tackle Baciwa
joint venture project
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is set to hold a special session to discuss the joint venture project of the Bacolod City Water District with a private company once it has identified a resource speaker on the issue.

Councilor Archie Baribar, chairman of the SP Committee on Energy, said yesterday they have no advice yet if there is already a resource speaker and if they are agreeable to him. Once they have one, they will set a special session.

Baribar said that, in the special session, the committee will consider a subject matter under investigation. They will then make a report or attempt certain causes of action.

He said they will also review the terms of reference (TOR) and the documents to be submitted to them by Baciwa.

Earlier, Amlig Tubig urged Baciwa to be transparent in its dealing with Prime Water and Manila Water for a joint venture project to improve the services of the water utility firm.

It also asked Baciwa to disclose the track record of Prime Water with other water districts.

The group stressed that the joint venture project is not a solution to the problem of Baciwa, but an escape of the Board of Directors and its management from accountability on how the water utility firm is being managed.

Meanwhile, the Joint Venture Selection Committee of Baciwa is set to take up the eligibility application of Manila Water this week.*
