BY MARCHEL P. ESPINA

The Department of Agriculture in Western Visayas is pushing the public to buy rice from local farmers, its regional director, Remelyn Recoter, said yesterday.

This week, the DA Region 6 celebrated the National Rice Awareness Month, with the theme, “Buy Local. Eat Local. Support Our Rice Farmers”.

Recoter said the celebration coincided with the present situation of the local rice industry after the passage of the Rice Tariffication Law.

BY MARCHEL P. ESPINA

The Department of Tourism in Western Visayas has underscored gender sensitivity in tour guiding, Cristine Mansinares, provincial supervising tourism operations officer, said yesterday.

This was emphasized in the two-day training on gender sensitivity for DOT-trained and accredited tour guides in the province, conducted by DOT-Region 6, in partnership with the Negros Occidental Tourism Division, at the Sugarland Hotel in Bacolod City that concluded yesterday.

The seminar, with 25 participants, is part of the continuing education program for local guides, Mansinares said.
