‘We won’t allow illegal quarrying’

The Negros Occidental provincial government will not tolerate illegal quarry operations, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday.

He noted that with the construction boom in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City there has been an increase in quarrying for sand and gravel.

There is nothing wrong with the demand increasing, it only means progress in Negros Occidental and we can see that with the construction of more hotels, condominiums and public works such as road, he said.

However, he stressed that the provincial government will not allow violations and shortcuts in quarry operations, permits have to be obtained.

Rest assured that the Provincial Environment Management Office will be on guard, he said.*
