Peña files poll protest
Seeks vote recount in MPadilla

Mayor Magdaleno Peña has filed an election protest seeking a recount of votes in the 40 clustered precincts of Moises Padilla in Negros Occidental, mayor-elect Ella Celestina Garcia Yulo confirmed yesterday.

Yulo said she received a copy of the election protest on Saturday and was given five days to reply. The protest was filed before the La Carlota City Regional Trial Court 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Cop nabs teacher with gun

A high school teacher was arrested Saturday for illegal possession of firearms inside a public high school compound in Brgy. Alimango, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

Nabbed by PCpl. Marvin Belleza Jr. was Alde Jarina Villar, 29, a teacher of the Escalante National High School.

The arrest of Villar yielded a .45 caliber Colt pistol with live ammunition in its chamber and two empty magazines. moremoremore

Monetary Board closes
Guihulngan rural bank

The closure of the Rural Bank of Guihulngan in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental has been ordered by monetary authorities.

“The Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) prohibited Rural Bank of Guihulngan (Negros Oriental) Inc. from doing business in the Philippines,” the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC) said in a statement.

The bank was placed under the control of PDIC on May 24.
