lose loans to fixers’

A large scale estafa complaint has been filed against four persons for allegedly swindling 21 senior citizens of big chunks of their Social Security System loans.
The complaint was filed before the National Bureau of Investigation in Bacolod City and the Social Security System has been informed of the incident, Bagtic Barangay Captain Helmer “Mikmik” Pobar said yesterday.

A barangay kagawad claiming to be a military agent was arrested by the police yesterday during a raid at his residence at Purok Langka, Brgy. San Fernando, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, for illegal possession of firearms.
Nabbed was San Fernardo barangay kagawad Romulo Banhao Jr., who used to also be a barangay chairman.The raid, by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Estefanio Libutan, conducted by members of the Provincial Intelligence Branch and Drug Enforcement Unit, Mobile Force Company of Negros Occidental, Police Provincial Office and the Talisay police, yielded a .45 caliber Armscor pistol, a KG9 sub machine gun, and seven magazines containing 79 live ammunition.
DA secretary orders labelling
of natural, synthetic vinegars
MANILA - Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol yesterday directed the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) to set the norms for vinegar manufacturing, with only sour condiments produced through natural fermentation process labelled as "vinegar" or "suka".
"As Secretary of Agriculture and a consumer, I will not dip my fingers into the health issues involved in using 'non-biogenic vinegar' because those are beyond my competence. But there are legitimate issues which I have to raise to protect our local vinegar-makers and the consumers as well," he said in a press briefing.Piñol noted that the DA has always assumed that vinegar is understood as a product of a natural fermentation process using agricultural products, such as the use of coconut sap or water, and sugarcane juice as the main ingredient for the production of vinegar.
