Incoming Rep. Francisco “Kiko“ Benitez disclosed Monday night that he will push for the Metro 3rd District development, once he assumes office.
Benitez, who congratulated EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon for his re-election, as well the victory of his entire slate on the May 13 elections, made the announcement, as he vowed to continue the infrastructure projects and other programs of his brother-predecessor, outgoing Rep. Alfredo Benitez.
If the district gets together, it will be a sufficient critical mass for many things not just the putting up of national government agencies offices,“ he added.
Benitez, who was unopposed in the 3rd district congressional race, said that the putting up of offices of national government agencies and departments in the district “will be beneficial“.
The third district is composed of the cities of Victorias, Silay, Talisay and the municipalities of EB Magalona and Murcia.
Benitez also said that he will pursue the education and health programs of his brother, especially the Negros Occidental Comprehensive Health Care Package.
At the same time, he added that he will also study and look into the possibility of the reviving the proposed Negros Island Region.
“Let us see and study. I think it is a good idea. It speeds up bureaucracy. Whatever speeds up bureaucracy is better for efficiency,” Benitez also said.
If NIR is realized, he said, it is a form of autonomy.*
