Final testing, sealing
of 2,353 VCMs today

The Commission on Elections is conducting a provincewide simultaneous final testing and sealing of Vote Counting Machines (VCMs) and Voter Registration Verification Machines (VRVMs) for Negros Occidental at 10 a.m. today, acting provincial election supervisor Salud Milagros Villanueva said yesterday.

Negros Occidental has 2,353 clustered precincts for Monday’s polls, with the corresponding number of VCMs and VRVMs, Villanueva said.

The Comelec also has contingency VCMs in all stations, she added. moremoremore


Poll security forces deployed

Five hundred thirteen security forces and resources were deployed yesterday to secure the elections in Bacolod City on Monday.

The personnel came from the Philippine National Police, 303rd Infantry Brigade and 79th Infantry Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.

Three different religious leaders said their respective prayers before a blessing was done on the personnel, vehicles, and other equipment at the Bacolod City Police Office headquarters at Magsaysay Avenue in Bacolod, yesterday. moremoremore

Poverty incidence drops 11%

The number of Negrenses living below the poverty line dropped to 11 percent in the first semester of 2018, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported recently.

The last survey in 2015, according to PSA, showed that poverty incidence among families in Negros Occidental was at 29.5 percent. It fell to 18.5 percent last year.

Poverty incidence is defined by PSA as the proportion of families whose income is below the poverty line to the total number of families.
