Salary of househelpers
in Neg Occ 2nd highest
BY MAX N. MACAHILO

The minimum wage for domestic household helpers, or kasambahays, in Negros Occidental and the rest of the Western Visayas, is the second highest in the country.

At P3,500 a month, the helpers’ premium is at par with that of the National Capital Region. Region 3 was highest at P4,000, Department of Labor Western Visayas regional director Cyril Ticao said yesterday at the Bacolod leg of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board’s hearings on the increase of the kasambahays’ salary, held at the Sugar Workers Development Center in Bacolod City.

The RTWPB acted in motu proprio to review the wage order. “This is the Board’s initiative since there is no petition,” Ticao said, adding that the group had also conducted a similar hearing in Iloilo City recently.
