Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said it is very significant and meaningful that the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (BREDCO) is opening the Simplicio A. Palanca Passenger Terminal on the first June 18 Charter Day celebration of Bacolod City.

“The symbolism is so inspiring. It means that if we are opening this facility today, we are opening Bacolod to the world and Bacolod is also going out to the world,” he said in his message during the inauguration of the passenger terminal yesterday at the BREDCO Port at the Reclamation Area.

The inauguration was led by Leonardia, Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, BREDCO president Jose Antonio Alonte, director Willy Au, Nena De Leon and Councilors Em Ang and Bart Orola. moremoremore

Be examples of honesty – Villar
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

Senator Cynthia Villar yesterday urged the outstanding taxpayers and government employees of Bacolod City, who were given recognition during Charter Day program last night at the Bacolod City Government Center lobby, to serve as good examples by practicing honesty and integrity.

“You are proof that the city is really practicing good governance, which should be the foundation of any profession or position. More so those in public office,” she said.

Villar said “There should be a high premium on honesty and integrity, especially in the profession and position that we are in. We do not only owe it to the people that we are serving. But it should be a personal commitment on our part.” moremoremore

Labor leader claims traders
manipulate prices of sugar
BY MARCHEL P. ESPINA

A labor leader in Negros Occidental yesterday claimed that sugar prices are still being manipulated.

Wennie Sancho, secretary-general of Sugar Watch Philippines, alleged that traders are manipulating the price in the market because it continues to increase.

He pointed out that the Department of Trade and Industry recently launched "Presyong Risonable Dapat," a program that aims to provide cheaper rice and sugar to consumers, but still the price of sugar is high.
