VTI strike notice filed;

The Philippine Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Workers Union-Trade Union of Congress of the Philippines filed a notice of strike against Vallacar Transit Inc. before the National Conciliation and Mediation Board in Bacolod City yesterday morning.

If no resolution to their complaints is reached, this could paralyze 50 percent of VTI bus operations in the Visayas, that operates Ceres Liner, Franny Santarin, PACIWU-TUCP Vallacar Transit Inc. chapter president, said.

However, there is a 23-day cooling off period from the time of the filing of the notice to give all parties time to try to resolve issues, he said. moremoremore


Bishop, kin slam lawyer’s slay,
call for end to Negros killings

"We lost another defender of justice", San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza said yesterday following the assassination of lawyer Anthony Trinidad, 53, of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

The bishop and the family of thelawyer, who was killed by motorcycle-riding assassins while on board his white Subaru sports utility vehicle in Sitio Looc, Barangay Poblacion, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, Wednesday, are calling for justice for his death.

Alminaza, in a pastoral letter denouncing the killing of Trinidad, called for an end to killings in Negros Island, and aired the Church opposition to the restoration of the death penalty. moremoremore

Negrense vying for nat’l
award for organic agri

A Negrense organic farmer was shortlisted in a national award for organic agriculture.

Jesus Antonio “Jet” Orbida , president of PeacePond Farmers Association in Binalbagan town , was among the finalists of the 2019 National Organic Agriculture Achievers’ Awards of the Department of Agriculture.

The National Technical Search Committee will conduct field validation on August 27 to 30 at Peac e Pond, a five-hectare diverse farm that was recently accredited by the Department of Tourism as the only farm tourism site in southern Negros.
