WV vies for best PNP reg’l office

The Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO-6) is among the five candidates for the best regional office in line with the 118th-anniversary celebration of the Philippine National Police.

Maj. Gen. Daniel Macatlang Jr., director of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations-Western Mindanao, has evaluated and validated the PRO 6 on Wednesday.

In a press conference at Camp Delgado, Macatlang expressed his satisfaction with what he had seen at the PRO-6.

“I am very happy that PRO 6 was this prepared,” he said.

Other candidates vying for the award are PRO-12 (Soccsksargen), PRO-4A (Calabarzon), National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), and PRO-8 (Eastern Visayas).

Macatlang said the candidates for best PRO garnered the first five highest ratings in terms of the PNP directories in the aspect of operation, investigation, and intelligence.

“We will validate their reports and documents, including their actual simulation exercise for us to check how prepared they are, their actions taken for different instances,” he said.

The PNP has assessed the preparedness of the regional office on instances like suicide bombing.

“We prepare, and the exercises are one way to test the preparedness of the regional, provincial, and municipal police in case the same situation happens in their area,” he said.

Macatlang said the PRO 6 has a “huge chance” of winning the award because the validation team was impressed with its welcome briefing, accomplishments, the well-maintained cleanliness, its camp and its police personnel being in proper uniforms.

The best PRO award will give high recognition to the police personnel and the regional director. A banner bearing the words“Best PRO of the Year,” will be attached to the regional flag streamer of the winning PRO, Macatlang said.

He said the personnel and members of the winning PRO will also receive commendations, which can be converted by the personnel into awards, and eventually into leave credits.

“The commendation can be converted into awards and the awards can be converted into leave, so personnel of winning PRO can go on vacation or leave with pay,” he said.

The result will be released a week before the PNP anniversary on August 18.*PNA
