Team Bugsay Kalamay bags silver
in Singapore Dragon Boat event

Members of the Bugsay Kalamay Dragon Boat team of the Negrosanon Paddlers Club in Singapore bagged a Silver Medal finish in the recently concluded "Isang Bangkang Malaya 2019" organized by The Filipino Dragons Singapore.

The event is on its 9th year and it is Bugsay Kalamay's second year of participation, finishing Bronze on its rookie season last year.

This year the team fielded in 2 boats, as the team grew in number from 22 participants to 32 members this year, a testament to the growing number of enthusiasts who want to enjoy the health benefits and engage in the sport of Dragon Boating. Working life for Filipinos in Singapore is quite stressful, and letting it all out on the boat is a good way to release that stress s while enjoying the company of "kasimanwas" and friends.

Team Bugsay Kalamay participated in the Captain's Cup(Fun Race) and the Champion's Cup(Competitive) for this year's edition of the annual event. It is the team's first time to participate in the Competitive category. The team succeeded to finish second overall in a field of 8 teams in the Captain's Cup, while the other crew managed to reach the Semifinal round in the Champion's cup before bowing out against tough competition which included local dragon boat clubs and Filipino dominant recreational clubs who compete in prestigious tournaments in Singapore.

The competition however was not all in the water. The traditional Team Cheer competition in the opening ceremony also leveled up and Team Bugsay Kalamay came prepared and won the top prize as the best in Team Cheer as it gave the crowd a glimpse how Filipinos party and perform with the rendition of the MassKara Festival dance to the tune to "Tong Tong Tong Pakitong-kitong".

Team Bugsay Kalamay and the Negrosanon Paddlers Club Singapore drew support from families and friends. Friends from Magik Land Silay through the kindness of former Rep. Alfredo Benitez and Rep. Francisco Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District), where most of the core members of Bugsay Kalamay are from, extended their support to the team and in its quest for victory.*
