SP committee name questioned

Bacolod Councilor Al Victor Espino said he wants the Committee on “Illegal Drugs” that was assigned to him re-worded because it might have a negative connotation.

Espino said he could not comprehend what it means. It is subject to interpretation.

He recalled that he had chaired the Committee on Police Matters, Peace and Order and Jail Management before.

This time he is chair of the Committee on Police Matters, Peace and Order, and Illegal Drugs.

Espino also chairs the Committee on Information and Communications Technology, and the Committee on Ways and Means.

But, as far as the implementation of policies of government of the Duterte administration, it is a matter of implementing laws that are already in place to curb, if not to eradicate the proliferation of illegal drugs, Espino said.

"We have to study new ways to have this problem addressed, " he said.

Meanwhile, Espino said he questioned during their inaugural session that other matters were taken up aside from the committee assignments of the councilors because it will be a precedent to the future members of the SP.

He pointed out that they took up correspondences without committee referrals. He also noted that there were other chairmen who were absent, he said.

Espino said he believes they should not have taken up other matters if these were not a matter of life and death or emergency cases.

Other matters taken up by the SP during its inaugural session Wednesday was the request of the mayor for the passage of a resolution authorizing, John Orola, designated as City Administrator or in his behalf Administrative Officer IV Allyn Luv Dignadice and City Treasurer Giovanni Balalihe or in his absence Local Treasury Operations Officer IV Arlene Memoria, to sign/countersign all documents and checks of the various accounts at depository banks under the name of the City Government of Bacolod.*
