The Commission on Elections is set to resume in August voter registration for the May 2020 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls, scheduled to run for only two months, from August 1 to September 30, inclusive of Saturdays and holidays.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez expects approximately two million new voters to register during this period. He added that current SK voters need not register anew as barangay voter as “their names will automatically be transferred from the SK list of voters to the regular list of voters” when they turn 18.
If Elections are the heart of a democracy, voters are its lifeblood and that makes voter registration a critical duty of responsible citizenhood. Filipinos who love their country and the freedoms it holds dear must take advantage of the opportunity to register as voters so they can participate in elections that depend on the will of registered voters to determine the fate of the country through the ballot.
Democracies that have more voters, especially if their quality is decent, represent the will in an ideal world, more voters voting means the will of the people and Filipinos must make it their obligation to vote.*
