Sarah says thank you

The parents of a 15-year-old Grade 10 honor student are thanking all those who provided assistance that has made it possible for their daughter to undergo needed surgery.

Sarah Jiezel Planas of Bacolod City, who has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure functional III secondary to rheumatic fever, is expected to undergo surgery at the Philippine Heart Center soon, her father Ernanie Planas said yesterday.

Her mother, Elizabeth, who is a school nurse at St. Scholastica’s Academy in Bacolod City, said her daughter needs to undergo valve replacement surgery to survive.

Sarah Jiezel thanked all those who helped her in a poem she wrote:

To everyone who worried for me

And shed their silent tears

But continually gave me strength

And soothed away my fears

To those who said their prayers

And included me each day

Then gathered more souls around them

To help me along the way

To those who moved quietly

And chose not to say their name

But gave the best they could

And helped me all the same

To those who just know me somewhere

As a classmate, student or stranger

Yet worried and offered some help

In one way or another

To those who sent encouragement

And took time to come see me

You made those days less boring

And a little less lonely

This poem is short and simple

But these words aren’t enough

To show how thankful I am

For all the support and all the love

I pray too that God will bless you

And keep you all in his care

May your blessings be abundant

And you a blessing everywhere*
