‘Officials protecting drug lords’
BY SHIELA G. GELERA

A former drug courier surfaced and named several police officers, government officials and a mayor who, she claimed, are protecting drug lords in Negros Occidental.

The woman, 33, who requested that her identity be withheld for security reasons, said the mayor has been threatening her life many times, prompting her to face the media at a press conference at the Negros Press Club in Bacolod City, Saturday.

She said she has knowledge of the illegal drug trade in Negros Occidental because she was personally handling the delivery of shabu supply under the Ramos Drug Group to different government officials and pushers since 2001 and had stopped only in 2014. moremoremore

BY MARK L. GARCIA

The volume of sugarcane production in the Philippines, including Western Visayas in 2018, declined by 18.42 percent at 24.73 million metric tons, compared to the 2017 output of 29,286,890 MMT, the Philippine Statistics Authority records showed.

Based on PSA’s Performance of Philippine Agriculture report for October to December 2018 published last week, the Philippines produced 24,730,820 MMT of sugarcane last year.

In the fourth quarter of 2018, there was a 2.22 percent drop in sugarcane production, as PSA noted that, in Western Visayas, there was a reduction in area harvested due to the higher price of sugar in the region.
