The Land Transportation Office yesterday deputized 64 traffic heads and traffic investigators from all the towns and cities in Negros Occidental, as well as Bacolod City, Reuben Tampos, LTO Bacolod chief, said.
This is the first batch of police personnel deputized by the LTO in the whole of Negros Occidental, Tampos said, adding that they are expecting almost 250 members of Philippine National Police to be deputized in the entire Region 6, as requested by Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, police regional director in Western Visayas.
“Those who have deputation now have the mandate to implement the provisions of Republic Act 4136 orthe Land Transportation and Traffic Code, and other related traffic rules and regulations,” Tampos said.
He said the newly-deputized traffic personnelcan also apprehend erring drivers, except for the campaign against colorums since the operation should havea mandate from the LTO regional office and should have an organic LTO regional employee in the team when operating.
So far, only the police at the Bacolod City Police Office and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, as well as the Highway Patrol Group in Negros Occidental, have been deputized to augment the enforcement of traffic laws in the province.*
