Class ’85 bet Edgar Vargas and Lea Uy of Class ’73 bagged the master bowler title in the men and women’s division of the Negros Occidental High Inter-class Alumni Bowling Fellowship hosted by Batch ’94 at the Negros Super Lanes in Bacolod City.
Vargas claimed the master’s crown by defeating top qualifier and twice-to-beat Felipe Boy Romero Jr. of Class ’73 in two games, 121-107 and 109-101 while Uy grabbed the title by default over No.2 Maribel Morales of Batch ’92.
Rated No.4 after the battle of the top 10 bowlers, Vargas earned the right to challenge Romero by outclassing No.3 Peter Deocadez of Batch ’94 in the quarterfinals and blew out Batch ‘2000-Up top player Raymund Galvan in the semis.
For her part, Lea Uy took the women’s title without a sweat when Morales opted not to play in the championship for friendship sake.
No.3 Jozel Balontong (Batch ’97) and No.4 Veron Baylon (Batch ’98) did the same.
The other top 10 players who failed to make it in the final four were Essho Garcia (Batch ’95); Hernand Garciniego (Class ’73); Toto Flores (Batch ’94); Iran Pielago (Class ’85); Bonnie Balontong (Batch ’95), and Noli Ortiz (Class ’83) in the men’s category; Jennifer Jamora (Batch ’94); Nene Tonogbanua (Class ’83); Madz Dayap (Batch ‘2000-Up); Grace Mangubat (Class ’83); Ann Dayot (Class ’82), and Mildred Coleongco (Class ’65) in the women’s side.*
