PVO to produce ‘Manok Negros’
BY MARK L. GARCIA

The Provincial Veterinary Office is creating a program to improve the genes of the local free-range chicken (FRC) in Negros Occidental, that will be called “Manok Negros” this year.

This will be implemented through its multiplier enhancement program for free-range chickens in Negros Occidental to boost its production and resistance to disease, Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Renante Decena, said yesterday.

The FRC Multiplier Enhancement Program is PVO’s initiative to continue the genetic improvement of free-range chickens by infusing new bloodlines to avoid in-breeding and boost its production with good growth potential, good laying performance, and significantly disease resistant, with meat quality comparable to the native strain, he said.

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting the Board of Directors of the Bacolod City Water District, through its chairman, Lorendo Dilag, to explain its Board Resolution No. 282 dated December 8, 2018, that approved the unsolicited proposal of Prime Water for a 25-year joint venture contract.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr., said Baciwa is a government-owned-and-controlled corporation (GOCC) and the same is imbued with public interest.

It said Section 26 of the Local Government Code provides that it should be the duty of every national agency or GOCC authorized or involved in the planning and implementation of any project or program that may cause pollution, climatic change, depletion of non-renewable resources, loss of cropland, rangeland or forest cover, and extinction of animal or plant species, to consult with pertinent agencies.
