A suspect, allegedly under the influence of alcoholic liquor, who attacked a policeman with an icepick on Monday in Brgy. Talaban, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, is now in jail, and is facing charges for direct assault against a person in authority.
Police Officer 1 Reynald Villacarlos responded to the complaint of a store owner against Ronel Tañedo, who failed to pay for the beer he had ordered.
Himamaylan police investigation showed that Tañedo, who was armed with an icepick, challenged, and even attacked Villacarlos, who identified himself as a police officer.
Supt. Ervin Glen Provido, Himamaylan City police officer-in-charge, said yesterday that Villacarlos, who was cornered by the suspect, was forced to shoot Tañedo in the right leg in self defense.
The Himamaylan police brought Tañedo to a hospital in Bacolod City, for treatment of his injury. After his release yesterday from the hospital, Provido said that the police filed charges for direct assault against persons in authority against him before the Himamaylan City Prosecutor’s Office, before he was jailed.
Police also detained Junber Castillo for allegedly stabbing Leonel Alcantara with an icepick, also on Monday in Brgy. 8, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Alcantara sustained a stab wound on his right shoulder, the police said.*
