Maraņon optimistic of
Palaro hosting chances
BY NIDA A. BUENAFE

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. is optimistic of the province’s chances to host the 2021 Palarong Pambansa against its lone competitor, the province of Capiz.

Marañon said that the committee created by the Department of Education to determine the host of the national games will take into consideration the existing facilities in the province, particularly, the Panaad and Park Stadium.

“We are bidding to host the 2021 Palarong Pambansa and representatives from the DepEd are scheduled to visit the province to inspect our facilities,” Marañon said.

Last week, Negros Occidental Vice Gov. Eugenio Lacson, led a team from the province to present its bid before the DepEd Selection Board..

Lacson is also confident of the province’s getting the approval of DepEd as far as the readiness of the playing venues and billeting areas is concerned.

“They told us that they are aware of the capacity of Bacolod and Negros to host such national sports competition,” Lacson said.

The Palarong Pambansa this year is slated to be held in Davao City, while next year’s Games will be staged in Luzon.

Lacson said that they are now preparing for the hosting of annual Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) next year.*
