Runway bidding starts


The bidding for the runway concreting of the Kabankalan City airport in Negros Occidental conducted by the Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has already started, Mayor Isidro Zayco said yesterday.

Zayco, who is now on his last term as mayor of Kabankalan City, said the DOTr has allocated P30 million for the runway concreting.

The Kabankalan City government also allocated P30 million for the project, he added.

The runway concreting is in preparation for the future of Kabankalan airport, Zayco who led the 43rd Sinulog Festival celebration, said.

The city government of Kabankalan has also received assistance from the Negros Occidental provincial government, and the national government, for the airport.

The 105-hectare airport, the development of which is financed by the city government of Kabankalan, started in 2007.

Zayco said he is bowing out from politics on June 30 this year, after 31 years of service to the government, as mayor of Kabankalan City for 18 years, as board member for nine years, as well as vice governor and governor of Negros Occidental.

He added that he is looking forward to his retirement from politics.

His brother, Board Member Pedro Zayco is returning for mayor of Kabankalan City.*
