Arroyo won’t comment
on Duterte drug targets

House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo yesterday said she does not want to be a critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, especially when it comes to his campaign against illegal drugs.

Arroyo, who was in Silay City, was asked for her reaction to the linking by the president of five Bacolod policemen and Bacolod Councilor Ricardo Tan to illegal drugs.

“I do not want to be a peanut gallery to President Duterte’s governance, especially when it comes to drugs,” she said.

“When it comes to drugs he knows much more than anybody else. In fact when I was president he was my adviser on drugs,” she said.

During Arroyo’s presidency Tan was assistant transportation secretary and Land Transportation Office Regional Director of the National Capital Region.

Arroyo said Duterte is doing “a great job as president…he has very important achievements, his reforms are very meaningful.”

She also said she believes Duterte’s engagements with China is very fruitful so now we should really reap the harvest from the reforms and the policy initiatives that he has made.*
