House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, began a “sentimental journey” to her favorite projects in the Philippines at the Bacolod Silay Airport in Silay City, Negros Occidental, that was built during her presidency 11 years ago.

“I am going to leave public office on June 30…I want to make a sentimental journey to my favorite projects in the Philippines,” she said.

Asked if she would accept a Cabinet post after June 30, she said “Those things are so hypothetical. There’s no offer and I’m not applying”, the former president said. moremoremore


Brothers meted life for drugs

Two brothers were sentenced to life imprisonment yesterday for the sale of P500 worth of shabu to a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency intelligence officer.

Bacolod Regional Trial Court Branch 52 Judge, Raymond Joseph Javier, found Joseph and Erwin Balsomo Lo guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the sale of .0599 gram of shabu to a PDEA agent in Purok Lubi, Barangay 3, Bacolod City, on Oct. 16, 2014, in violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Aside from being sentenced to life imprisonment, the brothers were also ordered to pay a fine of P500,000. moremoremore

IN BACOLOD
10% discount for biz establishments
renewing permits in full until Feb. 28

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved an ordinance Wednesday that grants a 10 percent discount to all business establishments that will renew their business permits in full until Feb. 28, acting Bacolod Vice Mayor Caesar Distrito said.

He said this is aside from exempting them from paying the 25 percent surcharges/penalty when the deadline was extended from Jan. 20 to Feb. 28.

The deadline for payment of business permit was supposed to be January 20. After that, taxpayers will be imposed a surcharge of 25 percent, he said.
