The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved an ordinance Wednesday that grants a 10 percent discount to all business establishments that will renew their business permits in full until Feb. 28, acting Bacolod Vice Mayor Caesar Distrito said.
He said this is aside from exempting them from paying the 25 percent surcharges/penalty when the deadline was extended from Jan. 20 to Feb. 28.
The deadline for payment of business permit was supposed to be January 20. After that, taxpayers will be imposed a surcharge of 25 percent, he said.
Distrito said if they pay in full on January 20, they will be entitled to a 10 percent discount.
He said the ordinance approved by the SP gave them an extension to pay their business permit from Jan. 20 to February 28. If they pay before February 28, they will not have to pay a 25 percent surcharge and if they pay in full, they will be entitled to a 10 percent discount.
Distrito said this will boost the collection of the Bacolod City government because if taxpayers pay early, the money can be used by the city for its priority projects.
They are giving this benefit to the businessmen as a matter of reward, and this is also in line with the policy of the city, being a Business-Friendly City, to help boost its campaign for the business sector to secure business permit on time, he said.
The ordinance was authored by Councilor Ana Marie Palermo, Distrito said.
Distrito had earlier authored an ordinance extending the deadline of payment of business tax and renewal of business permits from January 20 to February 28, in order to assist taxpayers and businessmen and give them ample time to process their business permits without having to pay surcharges.*
