BacoLaodiat won’t be
at Lacson St. – Bing
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

The organizers of the 14th BacoLaodiat Festival have decided not to use Lacson Street in Bacolod City during the staging of the festival from February 1 to 4 so as not to add to the traffic problem in the area, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said.

He said the main festival site of the celebration will be the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds.

Leonardia said that what will make this year’s celebration unique is that it will be the first BacoLaodiat Festival that will be opened with a concert by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.

Leonardia said they will perform on January 31 at SMX Convention Center and this is by invitation, while on February 1, they will perform at the BCGC grounds and this will also be free to the public.

He is inviting the public to witness this rare occasion in Bacolod City, he said.

Leonardia said he had seen the performance of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and this drove him to work for thisbyasking people to help. So far, they were able to convince SMX to provide the venue for free.

He said they needed 45 rooms for the performers and several hotels offered their rooms also for free, he said.

The performers will also hold a motorcade during their arrival in Bacolod, he added.

This year’s festival will usher in the Year of the Pig in the Chinese Lunar calendar.

Meanwhile, Leonardia said he has received initial reports from the Land Transportation Office that there are over 100,000 registered motored vehicles in Bacolod City or an increase of over 8,000 vehicles and this keeps on growing, he said.*
