Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said the contractor building the Mambukal Convention Hotel is repairing the damaged roof of its kitchen at no cost to the provincial government.
The roof of the kitchen of the near completed hotel at the Mambukal Mountain Resort in Murcia, Negros Occidental, caved in when debris from a parapet hit it on Tuesday.
Strong wind caused tree branches to slam into the parapet causing it to break and fall on the kitchen roof below, Provincial Engineer Ernie Mapa said.
Marañon inspected the 48-room hotel yesterday afternoon and the damaged kitchen roof.
Alfies Construction, the firm building the hotel, will pay for the cost of the repairs since it has not turned over the hotel to the provincial government yet and, it is still its responsibility, he said.
The governor also wants the convention hotel’s appearance further improved. The hotel is expected to begin operations in March.
The provincial government allotted P84 million for the construction of the hotel and the repair of the Tourist Lodge in Mambukal.*
