Leonardia to carry PHL flag anew
in Pacquaio-Broner Jan. 19 fight

Philippine ring icon and Senator Manny Pacquiao has again invited Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia to carry the Philippine Flag in his match against Adrien Broner of the U.S.A in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 19.

Pacquiao will defend his WBA Welterweight title against Broner at the MGM Garden Grand Arena in Las Vegas in a match billed “Return to Vegas.”

In his letter to Leonardia dated Dec. 11, 2018, Pacquiao said “As in my previous fights, your presence in the ring will be a great moral support for me, particularly as this promises to be an exciting fight knowing that Broner is a 4-division title holder.”

Pacquiao, who considers Leonardia his lucky charm, also invited the mayor’s wife, Bacolod First Lady Elsa Leonardia and their daughter Loren Kara, to join his cheering squad at the ringside together with other members of his family and friends.

“My inspiration to do my best comes when I can feel the support of my fellow Filipinos especially my family and friends, like you, in the crowd, rooting for me,” Pacquiao said in his letter to the mayor.

Leonardia, during a press conference Tuesday, said he will be travelling to Las Vegas without his family.

Meanwhile, Leonardia said that he has also received an invitation from the Bacolod Society of America because it has been sometime since he was in the U.S. considering that Pacquiao fought in Las Vegas two and a half years ago.

That is also how long ago he was absent from America and that will be a chance to have an updating with the Bacolod-Negros community in the California area, he said.*CGS
