CAFGU member killed

The killing spree of the New People’s Army continues with another member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) shot and killed by communist rebels in Brgy. Linantuyan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, Sunday.

The victim was identified as CAFGU member Joseph Gabia, who is assigned at the Linantuyam detachment.

Brig. Gen. Ignacio Madriaga, 302 nd Infantry Brigade commander, yesterday said that Gabia, who was off duty and unarmed, went home from his detachment to settle personal problems. While on his way to their detachment, he was waylaid and shot dead by suspected members of the NPA Special Partisan Unit (SPARU).

Madriaga said he believes that the killing of the unarmed CAFGU was in retaliation to, the arrest of the NPA intelligence officer, Lorenzo Ferolino, alias Tisoy, in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, last week.

The Philippine Army recorded 26 killings perpetrated by the NPA last year in Negros Island.*
