Police arrest brothers
for brutal slay of child
BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A 20-year-old suspect, who confessed to have been a drug user, has admitted to have killed a 10-year-old girl in Brgy. Zone 14-B, Talisay, City, Negros Occidental, Friday night.

Marchela Sayo, 10, was found hogtied with her head covered with plastic under a sink at the boarding house of her uncle.

The confession of the arrested suspect, Almar Duron, to the crime was also confirmed yesterday by Supt. Boots Aseo, who is the officer-in-charge of the Talisay City Police Station.

Duron, 20, is now detained at the Talisay City police jail. He and his 17-year-old brother, were both arrested by the police, following the death of Sayo, a Grade 3 student.

The 17-year-old suspect, who was a caretaker at the boarding house, is now under the custody of the Talisay City Social Welfare and Development Office.

The Talisay City police have not yet determined if the victim was molested, as they were still waiting for the result of an autopsy.

Almar, in an interview with MBC Aksyon Radyo, admitted that he used to take illegal drugs. But he claimed he was not under the influence of liquor or illegal drugs, when he killed the child.

Aseo said that they will have to validate the claims of Almar.

Almar told Aksyon Radyo that he confessed to his participation in the crime, because he was bothered by his conscience. He committed the crime alone, his brother had nothing to do with it, he also claimed.

Almar apologized to the family of the victim for her death.

Aseo said that the result of the autopsy will determine what charges will to be filed against the two brothers.

Almar also said that he had no intention to molest the minor, whom he had requested to throw away spoiled salad when she passed by the boarding house.*
