Nurse killed in accident
BY SHIELA G. GELERA

A nurse died when his car hit a Mahogany tree in front of the Father Gratian Murray Integrated School (Boys Home) at Alangilan Road in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City, at about 12:40 a.m. yesterday.

Dix Icon Ridge Villa, 24, of Barangay Alangilan in Bacolod was brought to the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital but he died, Senior Insp. Gepilango, Police Station 5 chief, said yesterday.

Traffic investigation showed that a black Honda FD vehicle was traveling north of Alangilan Road when it hit the mahogany tree, Gepilango said.

Police officers who responded to the scene found the vehicle of Villa a total wreck. Its engine was thrown about 50 meters away from the vehicle, and the victim was lying on the right side of the road beside his car, he said.

Two tricycles were also damaged when they were hit by the engine of Villa’s vehicle, Gepilango also said.

He said they could not determine yet whether Villa had fallen asleep, or was under the influence of liquor.

Last year, the 7-year-old son of a councilor from Pototan, Iloilo, died when a centuries old Mahogany tree toppled by strong winds hit the front windshield of their Toyota Fortuner, also in the area.*
