The Department of Agrarian Reform Negros Occidental 1-North, through the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, distributed Certificates of Land Ownership Award and installed 46 agrarian reform beneficiaries at Hda. Katrees, Brgy. Caliban, Murcia town, yesterday.
The installation and distribution of CLOAs was the first for the department in 2019 where beneficiaries received a total of 78.8 hectares of land, previously owned by Ma. Cecilia Arguelles Gonzaga.
OIC-Municipal Agrarian Reform Program officer Antonia Figueroa recognized the full cooperation of the former landowner in the successful implementation of the program. She reiterated to the farmers during the program their rights and obligations as the new owners, which include payments for amortizations and land taxes.
Figueroa warned the farmers of penalties and consequences whenever they made violations of conditions stated in the agreements, before they took over the property.
Gonzaga, who was present during the program, advised the ARBs not to lease their awarded lands, but to make them more productive.
“I agreed to subject these lands to CARP for I believe that we are all mere stewards or caretakers of God,” she added.
Meanwhile, Barangay Captain Antonio Luis Gonzaga expressed his support to the programs of DAR. He even asked the beneficiaries to take good care of the land and fulfill their obligations.
In her response, ARB Dionesia Banquillo, in behalf of the group, expressed gratitude to the government and to the former landowner, who cooperated in the realization of the CLOA distribution. She said that their hardships have paid off with the land titles they now possess.
The activity ended with the ARBs going through the newly-acquired land, showing their individual CLOAs and placards of acquisition for a photo session.*
