Video clip a clear lie, Bing says

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said the video clip on social media showing the President expressing displeasure at him was clearly a lie, that was peddled by a politician who claims to be a singing champion.

It was spread by a Facebook page that bears his name and that of his boxer son, the mayor said in a press release from City Hall.

Leonardia said it supposedly shows President Duterte expressing displeasure at him for the death of SPO4 Oscar Exaltado, deputy chief of Police Station 6.

The truth is: the official transcript of the 42-minute speech titled “Groundbreaking of the New Site of the San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital (Speech) 1/29/2019” on YouTube does not mention my nickname Bing or my first name Evelio or my surname Leonardia, he said.

“We have confirmed this by simply downloading the official transcript of the speech on the website of the Presidential Communications Operations Office,” Leonardia said.

This is an apparent show of disrespect for the President whose campaign against crime I have supported. Those who disrespect the President also disrespect the Bacoleños, who they think will fall for their lies, he said.

Leonardia said the timing is also suspect because the fake news was released at a time when he was attending the “Rehabinasyon: The 1st National Anti-Drugs Summit” at the Marco Polo Hotel in Davao City.

He said that apart from Davao mayor and presidential daughter Sara Duterte, he was the only mayor invited who attended this summit along with Secretaries, Undersecretaries, Assistant Secretaries and other top officials of the Duterte administration.

“To those who try to deceive the great people of Bacolod, be assured that I will bring this to the attention of our beloved President Duterte so you will be unmasked for what you truly are,” Leonardia said.

He urged his fellow Bacoleños to reject fake news, lies, and political propaganda like this.

“Let us reason together with truth, not with lies,” Leonardia added.*
