Today is the second of the four-day BacoLaodiat Festival, the Chinese New Year celebration in Bacolod City.
Festival activities are held at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds with malls in the city hosting various events.
Highlighting the Saturday events at BCGC are the Kao Ka Chinese Opera, Lantern Dance Parade Competition, nightly fireworks display and the Globe event tonight.
Sunday activities include the Parade of Mascots at 4 p.m. followed by a zumba party.
Capping the celebration are the awarding program and the grand fireworks show.
Also featured at the BCGC grounds are the Imperial Village and food kiosks alley.
Events at the Goldenfields Commercial Complex tomorrow starting 4 p.m. are the streetdancing contest, Western electronics show, car audio sound-off and the ‘sinadya’ activities.
The final events of the BacoLaodiat table tennis tournament will be placed at Lopue’s San Sebastian today and tomorrow.
The Kao Ka Chinese Opera will be presented at 3 p.m. today at SM City, where a parade around the malls and repeat performances are scheduled on Tuesday.
At Ayala Capitol Center, a Chinese s inging contest is scheduled at 3 p.m. and the lantern dance competition at 4 p.m. On Sunday, the Giant Pig Lantern Exhibit will be held.
At the Yuan Thong Temple at Burgos Street, activities scheduled are the open house today until Tuesday as well as the Chinese cultural show, lion, dragon and lantern dances, light offering prayers and the midnight pealing of the bell on Monday.
The Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Tuesday in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other countries with heavy Chinese population.
In the Chinese zodiac calendar, 2019 is the Year of the Earth Pig.*
