Jail warden assumes post
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Chief Insp. Jonairy Sitchon assumed office as the new warden of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology district jail in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City, Monday.

He replaced Chief Insp. Pricel Arevalo, who was relieved after the recovery of about P500,000 worth of shabu and more than P210,000 in cash in the jail facility early this month during a Greyhound operation.

Sitchon was the deputy jail warden of Lapu-lapu City before his latest assignment. Arevalo was assigned in Lapu-lapu City, Cebu.

Sitchon stressed that, aside from securing the detainees or persons deprived of liberty, it is of paramount importance to work for their rehabilitation and values formation while under detention.

He also lined up activities to boost the morale of jail personnel because of the recent drug haul inside the facility that has somehow painted them in a bad light.

Questions were raised as to how the illegal drugs and the large sum of money were able to pass through strict procedures being implemented in the facility.

Sitchon considers it a big challenge to prevent the entry of contraband items in the district jail in Bajumpandan. He enjoined jail personnel to strictly uphold the right of every detainee.*
