Councilors calling
for massive cleanup
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting the office of Mayor Evelio Leonardia to spearhead a massive clean-up drive in all coastal areas of Bacolod City.

The call was made in a resolution authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito that was approved by the SP Wednesday.

It calls a support of all city government employees, students, teachers, peoples and civic organizations, barangays and private companies to join the clean-up drive.

The present condition of the coastal areas of the city is worsening, primarily because of the piles of wastes in several forms that are also very detrimental to individuals and all other life forms, the resolution said.

The city government, in line with its thrust to preserve the environment for the good of its people, has to conduct sustainable activities, such as coastal clean ups, involving the participation of all stakeholders of the city, it said.

The national government recently showed its serious concern for the environment by intensifying rehabilitation campaigns to bring back the pristine beauty of its natural wonders, such as Boracay and Manila Bay, it pointed out.*
