J Squared tames Young Lions,
Shakey’s survives 4 J’s, 77-73

 

J Squared/Colt 45 prevailed over Young Lions/Tanduay Ice, 82-73, while Shakey's/Cobra Smart Plus survived 4J's Rent a Car/Asahi Beer,77-73, during Tuesday’s match-up in Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Cup Basketball Tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Jomarie Bayhon scored 14 straight points, highlighted by four triples, to give J Squared a 17-13 lead after the first quarter.

Cousins Jerald Abrot and JR Fernandez then teamed up with Bayhon in the second canto, combining for 16 points, to increase the lead to eight at halftime, 40-32.

In the second half, Young Lions' Jayvee Alic, team owner Bambam Gilbor and Ricky Despi, combined for 41 points to keep the game close but Joemil Paderog exploded for 21 points to help J Squared nail its first win in the tournament.

Meanwhile, 4Js Rent a Car was leading in the fourth period behind the sweet shooting trio of Crismar Dormido, Elven Diaz, and Rolly Jaca.

But Shakey's new recruits, Monic Solivo and Jerome Napao, combined for 17 points in the final minutes to cap their team's come-from-behind win against 4Js Rent a Car.

Solivo led Shakey's with 17 points with Napao backing him up with 12. 4Js trio of Dormido, Diaz, and Jaca scored 22, 19, and 12 respectively, in a losing effort.*
