Guv: Negros wins bid
to host Palaro in 2021

The Negros Occidental provincial government won the bid to host the 64th Palarong Pambansa in 2021 by majority vote, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday.

This is a big boost to Negros Occidental, and the province has two years to prepare for it, he said.

It will be the 6th time that Negros Occidental will have hosted the Palarong Pambansa. The national event was also held in the province in 1971, 1974, 1979, 1998, and 2000. moremoremore


Murcia declares state of calamity

The municipal government of Murcia, Negros Occidental, has declared a state of calamity due to the prevailing dry spell that has affected its crops.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist reported that Murcia that has suffered the most damage from the extreme heat incurred P8.29 million worth of production losses.

The damage brought by the dry spell covered 179 hectares of rice farmlands in the town, affecting 201 farmers from eight villages. moremoremore

Chicken egg production
up 11% in Western Visayas

The chicken egg production in Western Visayas increased by 11 percent in 2018.

Based on the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, the chicken egg output in the region in the 12-month period rose to 34,351 metric tons from 30,955 MT in the previous year. Most of the egg production came from layer chicken with 18,897 MT while the output from the native chicken was at 15,453 MT.

In the region, Negros Occidental remained the top producer of chicken egg with 13,222 MT in 2018 from 12,552 MT in 2017, yielding an increase of 5.33 percent.
