SANDIGANBAYAN JUNKS GRAFT RAPS
BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo yesterday described as a “vindication” the dismissal by the Sandiganbayan of a graft case against him for the alleged illegal use of a PHP10 million cash advance for intelligence operations in 2013.

The Sandiganbayan First Division dismissed the criminal case Monday, saying state prosecutors failed to prove Degamo’s illegal use of the fund.

Former Ombudsman Conchita Morales had ordered his dismissal from office three times for such charges, Degamo told the DAILY STAR. moremoremore

Some areas ‘free
zones’ in 2019 polls
BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Some towns and cities in Negros Occidental may end up as “zona libre” (free zones) in next year’s elections, if clashes between some members of the United Negros Alliance and Love Negros cannot be settled.

This was disclosed by Board Member Salvador Escalante, secretary general of United Negros Alliance, yesterday, who added that they are not losing hope that the unification of the two local political groups at the provincial level may also be replicated in the towns and cities of Negros Occidental.

The tandem of Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and former Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer as gubernatorial and vice gubernatorial bets under the unity ticket of UNegA and Love-Negros in next year’s polls, is expected to be officially announced soon by the two political groups. moremoremore

Promote attractions digitally,
Negros tourism officers told
BY MARK L. GARCIA

Tourism officers were urged to adopt digital technology to further promote tourist attractions in their towns and cities in Negros Occidental as the provincial government pushes for a digital transformation in this growing industry.

In line with the celebration of World Tourism Day on September 27, Provincial Supervising Tourism Operations officer Cristine Mansinares said yesterday that its theme, “Tourism and the Digital Transformation”, embodies the need for tourism stakeholders to create the new media, the internet and social media, as platforms for sharing positive tourism stories and further promote them.

A forum on this year’s tourism day celebration was held yesterday at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City to make Negrense tourism stakeholders realize the importance of the new technology in promoting tourist attractions.
