Boxing at SP session:
Puentevella vs. Ramos
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod excluded Councilor Claudio Puentevella from attending the session yesterday after he punched Councilor Dindo Ramos on the left cheek following an argument over the proposed construction of cell no. 2 at the sanitary landfill in Brgy. Felisa, Bacolod City.

Majority of the SP members voted in favor of the resolution proposed by Councilor Cesar Distrito that excluded Puentevella from attending the 115th regular session of the 9th Council yesterday, while Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr. objected and Councilors Sonya Verdeflor and Ricardo Tan abstained.

He did not expect Puentevella to suddenly punch him during an argument regarding the contract for the sanitary landfill, Ramos said. So he is filing charges against Puentevella for direct assault, either with the Ombudsman or the City Prosecutor, and disruption of legislative assembly. moremoremore

Piñol, SRA air views on import plan
BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel "Manny" Piñol yesterday assured that there will be no importation of sugar if there is no shortage.

“The price of sugar is low. I will meet with the Sugar Regulatory Administration Board” today, he told the DAILY STAR, in response to sugar industry stakeholders’ calls for government not to import sugar following recommendations made by the country’s economic managers.

President Rodrigo Duterte's economic managers want him to sign an executive order that will remove administrative constraints and non-tariff barriers in the importation of rice, fish, vegetables, sugar and meat, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said yesterday. moremoremore
