South-South Cooperation Day
Today is International Day for South-South Cooperation.
South-South cooperation is a manifestation of solidarity among peoples and countries of the South that contributes to their national well-being, their national and collective self-reliance and the attainment of internationally agreed development goals.
The goals include the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
That cooperation, the United Nations said, is done through a broad framework of collaboration among countries of the South in the political, economic, social, cultural, environmental and technical domains. Involving two or more developing countries, it can take place on a bilateral, regional, intraregional or interregional basis, UN added. Developing countries share knowledge, skills, expertise and resources to meet their development goals through concerted efforts.
The United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation celebrates the economic, social and political developments made in recent years by regions and countries in the south.
It also highlights UN’s efforts to work on technical cooperation among developing countries.

Fortune Cookie Day
Fortune Cookie Day will be celebrated tomorrow.
A fortune cookie is a crisp cookie usually made from flour, sugar, vanilla, and sesame seed oil with a “fortune” placed inside.
A “fortune” is a piece of paper with words of wisdom or a vague prophecy. The message inside may also include a Chinese phrase with translation or a list of lucky numbers used by some as lottery numbers.
Some of the numbers have become actual winning numbers.
Fortune cookies are often served as a dessert in Chinese restaurants.
Feast of the Cross
Friday will be observed as the Feast of the Cross.
The religious commemoration honors the cross used in the crucifixion of Jesus. While Good Friday is dedicated to the Passion of Christ and the Crucifixion, these days celebrate the cross itself, as the instrument of salvation.
It is believed that the True Cross was discovered in 326 by Saint Helena during a pilgrimage she made to Jerusalem.
This feast is also called “The Exaltation of the Holy Cross”.
The second week of September is observed in the country as Education Week. The observance is in keeping with Proclamation No. 409 signed in 1953.
The week’s observance takes place during the Education Month celebration, which ends on Oct. 5, which is globally marked as World Teachers’ Day.
On the third week of this month, the country will observe Medical Technology Week (Proclamation No. 1181 signed in 1973), Design Consciousness Week (Proclamation No. 1259 issued in 1974);
