BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

About 70 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Male Dormitory Annex (MBDJ-MDA) in Barangay Handumanan, and MBDJ-Male Dormitory in Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, participated in the first MassKara Special Indoor Streetdance yesterday, as part of the 39th festival celebration.

The activity is also part of the National Correctional Consciousness Week observance from October 22 to 28.

The PDLs performed in colorful costumes inside their respective jail facility and were choreographed by former and current PDLs.

Jail warden, Senior Insp. Norberto Miciano of the MBDJ-MDA, and jail warden, Chief Insp. Ruth Estales, of the MBDJ-MD thanked the city government for the financial assistance it has provided for the event.

Miciano said the National Consciousness Week aims to make the private and public sectors aware that they have an equal responsibility in supporting the healing process of PDLs.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran offered to give P20,000 as cash prize for the winners, to be taken from his Pagcor share.

Special awards are best in concept, best in mask, best costume, and best in choreography.

The winner will be announced during the highlight of the 39th MassKara Festival.

The judges include Ismael Java and Louis Archie Perez.*
