NPA calls for probe
on death of Rapiz

The Leonardo Panaligan Command of the New People’s Army yesterday called for a thorough and in-depth investigation into the killing of Supt. Santiago Rapiz by members of the PNP Counter Intelligence Task Force in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte, Monday night.

Ka JB Regalado, spokesperson of the LPC, issued a statement stating that Rapiz, who used to lead the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Bacolod City Police Office before his assignment to Mindanao, had no criminal records or any involvement in illegal drugs.

Regalado described Rapiz as a good athlete with sports-minded personality, being a basketball player, and a competent police officer, who was actively involved in anti-illegal drugs campaign wherever he was assigned. moremoremore


Bereaved kin in Dipolog

The bereaved family of Supt. Santiago Rapiz flew to Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte yesterday, to claim his body for burial.

The body was subjected to an autopsy yesterday.

Rapiz was killed in a buy-bust operation of the Philippine National Police’s Counter-Intelligence Task Force and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, in front of the Andres Bonifacio College Gymnasium in Dipolog City, at about 7:40 p.m. Monday. moremoremore

WV inflation rate in Oct. still high

The inflation rate in Western Visayas continued to increase in October at 7.7 percent, that is one percent higher than the national average and 0.1 percent elevated compared to its record in September, data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority yesterday showed.

The data acquired by the DAILY STAR from the PSA website showed the average inflation rate in all commodity groups in Region 6 at 7.7 percent last month, while the national average maintained the 6.7 percent level since September.

Western Visayas is one of the seven regions that showed an increase in their inflation rates in October.
