SRA moves to curb
surge in sugar prices

The Sugar Regulatory Administration Board yesterday issued a new sugar order geared toward bringing down the surge in domestic sugar prices to a reasonable level.

Sugar Order No. 9 Series of 2017-2018 reclassifies “D” or world market sugar into “B” or domestic sugar for crop year 2017-2018.

The sugar order said that, following the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to prioritize the needs of the domestic market, Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol directed the SRA to ensure ample and stable supply of sugar for the domestic market, particularly during the off-milling period and early months of the incoming milling season. moremoremore

brgys drug cleared

ILOILO CITY – A total of 111 barangays in Western Visayas, including 15 in Negros Occidental all in Pulupandan town, were declared drug-cleared yesterday.

These barangays were declared drug-cleared following the series of deliberations conducted by the Regional Oversight Committee from January to March, said Thessa Albano, deputy regional director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Western Visayas.

Albano said that most of these drug-cleared barangays are in Iloilo province with 34, of which 15 are in the towns of Mina, Janiuay – 11 and Maasin – 8. moremoremore

Workshop on blockchain technology on

A Singapore-based firm will introduce the blockchain technology to Bacolod City through a workshop today at the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College-Talisay Campus, the Bacolod Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (Bnefit) said in a statement yesterday.

The Bacolod Blockchain Initiative will be an intensive whole-day workshop about block chain, dubbed as the software technology of the future, Bnefit president John Dave Dueñas said in the statement.

The workshop will be led by Bnefit, Singapore-based incubator Ethereum World, Manila-based firm DynaQuest Technology Services, and local startup HYBrain Development Corp., and is expected to be attended by industry practitioners and local stakeholders from the city.
