MICECON training sought
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

Bacolod City has requested the Department of Tourism Regional Office 6 to conduct seminars and trainings for all Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions & Exhibitions Conference or MICECON activities, in the city.

The Tourism Promotions Board has awarded to Bacolod City the honor of hosting the 2018 MICECON, which will be held at the SMX Convention Center from August 8 to 10.

Bacolod Councilor Em Ang, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Tourism, said they have requested the DOT VI to train frontliners in the hospitality industry, like hotels and restaurants, in preparation for all MICE activities.

“We have also requested for trainings of our liaison officers so that we can become competitive, because there are many conventions and big events scheduled for the whole year in Bacolod City,” Ang said.

DOT 6 has also scheduled trainings and seminars in Bacolod City for events management in the city and province before the 2018 MICECON, she said.

Ang said the reason Bacolod won is that MICE saw how rapidly it has grown in the last two years.

“We also have been in the national scene because of the awards and citations we received especially when we were cited as The Top Model City. So all local governments are looking at us,” she said.

They are looking at Bacolod as a good model for replication of best practices and they find the city clean and organized, compared to other cities. The people here are also friendly, and food is good and cheap in Bacolod, Ang added.*CGS
