Bacolod giving awards on June 18
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

The Ang Banwahon Award and recognition of outstanding taxpayers of Bacolod City will be held at the Bacolod City Government Center on June 18, which is the Commemoration of the Signing of the Charter Day of Bacolod City, Bacolod City Administrator John Orola said yesterday.

Other activities include a photo exhibit with historical significance and mural painting contest, he said.

Former Tourism Secretary and Miss International (1964) Gemma Cruz-Araneta has accepted their invitation to attend the celebration of the birthday of Dr. Jose Rizal on June 19 at the Rizal park at Rizal Elementary School.

They will also start cleaning up the city for the June activities up to December. His priority is the clearing of illegal structures especially along riverbanks, he said.

Orola said he is also requesting the cooperation of the DepEd and newly elected barangay officials to help clean up the barangays.

He said they are also working closely with the businessmen to look into the investment program of the city because they plan to reactivate the Investment Council of Bacolod.

Meanwhile, Orola said he envisions the establishment of a war museum at the Mabini Elementary School at Mabini Street, Bacolod City.

He said there is a war tank below the main building of the school so he is planning to discuss with the members of the alumni association the proposed establishment of a war museum within the school grounds.

Orola said his 97-year old mother, Remedios Nuega Orola, is an alumna of the Mabini Elementary School (formerly East Elementary School).*CGS
