‘2018 BSKE worst ever’
BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

Bacolod Election Officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia yesterday said the 2018 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election is the worst she has experienced in her 14 years with the Commission on Elections.

Majarucon-Sia said she has only 12 election assistants and they have voluminous work since Bacolod has many candidates. Each of her 12 election assistants is handling about 20,000 to 25,000 voters.

She said this is the first time that the SK elections had many candidates and voters. She sympathizes with the members of the Barangay Board of Canvassers who have to work more than 18 hours continuously just to finish the canvassing especially in large barangays.

Majarucon-Sia cited, for example, that in Villamonte, the BBOC have to canvass 53 clustered precincts for barangay candidates and after that, they have to canvass 53 clustered precincts for SK candidates.

She said that, aside from the complaint for election offense filed against four incumbent barangay captains, they have also received a disqualification case against a candidate for barangay captain and a kagawad of Barangay 37.

Meanwhile, Majarucon-Sia said they have released the honorarium of 846 chairmen of the electoral board yesterday while those of the more than 2,800 poll clerks, the third member, BBOC and support staff will be released today.

She said the release of their honorarium is complicated and strenuous.

Majarucon-Sia said she hopes the poll workers will understand the reason for the delay since she wanted to make sure that the elections will be finished Monday and that her priority on Tuesday was to make sure that all winning candidates have been proclaimed.

Majarucn-Sia is reminding winning and losing candidates to remove all their election paraphernalia since the elections are over.

The reason they ran is because they want to render public service. Therefore, they should cleanup their barangays, she said.

Majarucon-Sia again reminded winning and losing candidates to submit their statements of contribution and expenditures not later than June 13.*CGS
